Online window configurator — how to price a window in 5 minutes

The GALI window configurator step by step: material, system, dimensions, layout, opening, glazing, colour. What to prepare, common mistakes, what happens next.

Pricing windows usually starts with an e-mail saying "please quote a 150 by 150 window" — and ends with five more e-mails full of questions, because everything needed for a quote is missing: layout, opening, glazing, colour. The configurator does it the other way round: first you decide what you want, and we reply straight away with a firm quote. Below — how to get through it efficiently and what to watch out for.

What to prepare before you start

  • Opening dimensions in millimetres — width and height of every window. If you are replacing windows, measure the old ones across the frame; if you are building, take the dimensions from the drawings. How to measure is explained in our FAQ.
  • The view from inside: which sash should open, which way, and whether it should tilt.
  • Orientation and floor — they decide the glass: a south-facing terrace is a candidate for solar-control glass, the ground floor for laminated, the street side for acoustic.
  • Colour outside and inside, if it is to be anything other than white.

Step 1: material and system

You choose uPVC, aluminium or timber, then a specific profile system. Hover over a system and you see its cross-section, depth and a short description of what it suits. If you do not know which to choose — take the middle one on the list; you will get a suggestion with the quote anyway, and in the summary you can ask for prices in several systems at once. This is also where you set the colour: the same on both sides, or separate outside and inside. The palettes are the manufacturers' real swatches, not approximations.

Step 2: dimensions

Width and height of the whole window in millimetres. The drawing on the left rescales as you type, so you see the proportions straight away. Do not subtract anything "for clearance" — we do that when confirming the order, once we know the installation situation.

Step 3: pane layout

Columns and rows divide the window into panes. You can enter the proportions in millimetres or simply drag the division lines in the drawing. The "Equalise" button spaces them evenly. Typical layouts: two sashes side by side, a sash plus a fixed section, a window with a fanlight at the top.

Step 4: opening

Click a pane in the drawing and choose what it should do: fixed (FIX), turn, tilt-and-turn, tilt, PSK tilt-and-slide or HST. If a pane is too large for the chosen opening type, the configurator flags it — it does not block you, only warns, and we check it when preparing the quote. This is a good moment to save: in a wide window, one opening sash and a fixed section cost less than two sashes and let in just as much light.

Step 5: glazing and equipment

Glazing (double or triple), the spacer and its colour, safety glass, acoustic glass, a trickle vent (manual or humidity-controlled), handle colour. Triple glazing is today's standard in a new home; when replacing windows in a flat, double may be enough — we wrote about the differences separately.

Step 6: summary and sending

You see the full specification of the window and the enquiry form. If you have more windows, use "Add another window to the project" — each can have a different size and layout, and the quote comes for the whole set. You can also download the drawing (PNG) or a PDF of the whole project, for example for your installers or your architect. We accept enquiries from 2 windows or 1 HST door — below that, transport defeats the purpose of the whole offer.

What happens after you send it

The configuration reaches us in full: drawing, dimensions, every choice. It is priced by a person who knows these systems — they check the sash dimensions, match the glass unit to the pane sizes and reply within 48 hours with a firm quote, not a price range. If something in the configuration makes no technical sense, we will tell you and suggest an alternative. We do not show prices online precisely because they depend on these details.

The three most common mistakes

  • Dimensions from the drawings without checking on site. Openings rarely come out to the millimetre — they are measured on site before ordering.
  • Opening set as seen from outside. The configurator shows the window from inside, like all joinery drawings.
  • Triple glazing everywhere, laminated everywhere. Choose extras where they do a job; in an upstairs bathroom window, security glass adds nothing.

Ready? Open the configurator — the first window takes a few minutes to build, every next one is quicker.
