Fly screens for windows and doors fit best when they are made together with the window: the size comes from the same order, so you do not measure anything twice. For windows we sell a framed fly screen or a roller fly screen; for balcony doors, a roller fly screen. In the configurator you add them only to opening sections, and you see the price straight away.
What types of made-to-measure fly screens are there?
A framed fly screen is an aluminium frame with mesh, fitted on the outside of the window. It is rigid, simple and can be taken down for winter. It stays on the window all season, though, so you remove it to clean the glass from outside.
A roller fly screen sits in a cassette above the window and runs down in side guides, like a small roller shutter. When you do not need it, it disappears into the cassette. It has more moving parts, but because it rolls up it also suits a balcony door you walk through.
You will also find pleated screens and hinged screen doors. We do not sell those, so they are not in the configurator.
Fly screens for windows and doors: which type where?
| Window or door | Framed | Roller | Watch out for | |---|---|---|---| | opening window (side-hung, bottom-hung, tilt and turn) | yes | yes | you take the framed screen off to clean the glass outside | | balcony door | no | yes | you cannot walk through a framed screen | | fixed window | no | no | it does not open, so the configurator does not offer it | | tilt and slide and lift and slide doors | — | — | check in the configurator; if no price appears, we add it to the quote |
In a window with several sections, only the opening section gets a screen. With one sash and a fixed pane, the mesh covers only the sash.
When framed, when roller?
A framed screen makes sense for ordinary windows you open for ventilation and rarely clean from outside. It is the simplest option. Choose a roller screen for balcony doors, for windows you clean often, and when the mesh should only be visible in summer. You do not have to pick one type for the whole house: in one order, the bedroom window can have a framed screen and the patio door a roller screen.
How do you order fly screens with your windows?
1. In the configurator, add a window or door, click the opening section and tick a fly screen, framed or roller. The price updates at once. 2. If no price for the screen appears on a section, we add it to the quote. We send the quote with transport within 3 working days. 3. Before production you receive a drawing and specification to approve. Check which sections have mesh. 4. The screens arrive with the windows on stillages. We charge transport per stillage space, depending on the country of delivery. 5. You fit them yourself or with a builder. If the fitter knows about the roller screen cassette, they will leave room for it.
We have worked with windows since 1997. In every quote we check sizes, opening sides and descriptions, and for fly screens also whether the mesh is on the right section. The correction we make most often is an opening side described from outside. Always describe it as seen from inside.
What else to settle before ordering?
Our prices include VAT. For delivery to another EU country we charge that country's VAT rate and account for it ourselves under the OSS scheme. You see the rate and amount in the quote. This is general information, not tax advice. Windows and screens are made to measure, so once you pay the sizes are locked, and made-to-measure goods have no 14-day right of withdrawal. Go through the drawing section by section.
How the pricing works is explained in Online window configurator, and the full order process on how it works. Build your windows with fly screens in the configurator and see the price straight away.
